Web developer in Bardhaman — two spellings, one town

Bardhaman and Burdwan are one town with two names, and people search under both. Someone after a rice mill, a sweet shop or a web developer in Bardhaman could type either. So I place each spelling where it reads naturally, and the site turns up for whichever one is used. I'm in Kolkata, India, and a written scope comes before anything else.

Bardhaman, West Bengal

Overview

Rice sold to another district

The rice and agri trade here sells to buyers in other districts. A mill's site is written for those buyers, in the terms they already trade in.

I write a mill's site for the whole country, not for the town, because its rice is already sold well beyond it.

Bardhaman is also a large town with a full ordinary economy beyond the mills, from shops to schools to professional firms. They're smaller and plainer sites, and I quote them that way. A shop's site can be a few pages that say what you sell, where you are and when you're open.

What gets built here

Settled page by page, before writing starts

Which spelling leads a heading, and which one turns up in the text beneath it, is agreed for each page before I write it.

  • Each spelling in a heading or a sentence — placed where it reads naturally, and agreed for that page.
  • A step of its own in the scope — the placement is listed before any copy is written.
  • Checked once the site is live — Search Console shows which spelling brings people in, as soon as enough visits arrive to compare.

What a scope from me looks like

Agreed in writing for a rice trader

FIXED PRICE · PER PHASE

Included

  • A written scope: every page and feature as its own line, agreed before work starts
  • Design to build, reviewed on a staging URL that stays open the whole project
  • Mobile first — checked on a real phone
  • Domain, hosting and every account created in your name from day one
  • Basic on-page SEO: titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap, Search Console connected
  • A runbook at handover: how to edit it, what renews and when

Phase two

  • Ordering with dispatch for anything that ships
  • A second language for the trade pages
  • Ongoing SEO once the site has traffic to read
  • A maintenance plan once the site is live
  • Logo and brand design, quoted separately from the build
Named now, priced once your dispatch process is settled.

Not doing

  • Guaranteed rankings
  • Grading, inspecting or certifying your stock — that stays between the mill and its buyers
A ranking isn't mine to promise, and grading is the mill's own job.

Grading rice isn't something I can do from Kolkata, India. Which grades the mill commits to, and how much it can supply, come from your own sheets.

If a sheet and the site ever disagree, the sheet wins and the site is corrected.

What an out-of-district buyer checks first

I'd put these three on the first screen of a mill's site, in this order.

  • 01

    Grade

stated the way your buyers compare it, not as a description
  • 02

    Capacity

what you can deliver, in the quantities you sell in
  • 03

    Storage

where the stock is kept, and how, until it's shipped

What moves the number

What the quote for a mill site depends on

For a trader, these are the lines worth talking through first.

  • Which kind of site it is — a trade site, a shop and a professional firm are three different sizes of job
  • How many grades or product lines get their own section
  • Whether dispatch tracking is needed yet, or orders by phone still work
  • Keeping the grades current after launch — a modest job that comes round regularly

Where this comes from

The team behind the build

I've been building since 2017, with 900+ projects completed so far. The project page has finished sites you can click through.

I lead each build myself, and the developers and designer building it are my own employees. Support is the whole team, not one person — reach us any time, and someone picks it up.

FAQ

Grades, buyers, search and sweets

One answer each, in plain words.

Should the site say Bardhaman or Burdwan?

Both names belong on the site, and where each one goes is agreed page by page. Whichever spelling turns up most in your own enquiries leads the headings, and the other one sits in the text.

What convinces a buyer in another district?

Numbers convince a buyer who's ordering from another district. Grades and capacity come first, then how the stock is stored. Each figure should hold up if that buyer rings to check it.

Who updates the grades once the site is live?

Someone at the mill can change the grades directly, or my team does it on a maintenance plan. A grade change is a small edit, and it doesn't need a developer each time, even when several grades change together.

Can buyers order through the mill's site?

Ordering through the mill's site comes later, once you know how stock leaves the mill. Until then, a buyer sends an enquiry or rings, and you take the order the way you take it now.

Can a sweet shop's products be named on the site?

A sweet shop's products can be named on the site once you tell me which ones you make. A sweet that's sent by courier also needs its packing and dispatch set out plainly.

Where to start with a mill

Send me the grades you sell and the quantities you deal in. We'll talk them through on a call, and I'll write the scope from there, line by line.
