Web developer in Darjeeling for tea estates and hill stays

Darjeeling is a name tea buyers abroad and travellers already know. I build on it. The web developer in Darjeeling you hire should set the specifics right beside that name, and that's my job. Each tea lot gets its garden, flush, grade and year on the site. Each room gets honest photographs and the real walk from the road. Every page stays light enough to open on a weak hill connection.

Darjeeling, West Bengal

Overview

What has to be stated, lot by lot

A buyer who knows tea checks the details of each lot before anything else, so I want them from you before I design a page. On a tea estate website they go up per lot, stated plainly and never implied.

The specifications come from you, and so do the details of each room. I write the pages; I can't grade your tea or know your rooms for you.

An estate or a stay opens its site with its own name, and with Darjeeling beside it.

Connectivity in the hills is not always good. So each photograph is sized to load quickly, and the text arrives before any of them. A buyer on a slow signal can read about the tea while the pictures are still loading.

What gets built here

Four things I will ask you for

None of these needs to be ready before we speak.

  1. 01Your stock list — which lots are on offer now.
  2. 02Photographs on an ordinary day — not the best morning of the year.
  3. 03A named person for tea enquiries — someone who can answer a buyer's question.
  4. 04Stock kept current — when the flush moves on, the site has to follow.

What a scope from me looks like

Phase one for an estate or a stay

Whatever you run, the first scope names exactly what changes on the site and who is allowed to change it.

Selling direct and a booking calendar are both written into phase two from the start, so neither is forgotten and neither holds up the first build.

If a lot sells out, you change it yourself or send me a line, and it comes off the site.

FIXED PRICE · PER PHASE

Included

  • A written scope: every page and feature as its own line, agreed before work starts
  • Design to build, reviewed on a staging URL that stays open the whole project
  • Mobile first — checked on a real phone
  • Domain, hosting and every account created in your name from day one
  • Garden, flush, grade and year stated per lot, at the top of the tea page
  • Basic on-page SEO: titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap, Search Console connected
  • A runbook at handover: how to edit it, what renews and when

Phase two

  • Selling tea direct from the site, with payment and dispatch
  • A stay's calendar with open dates, for guests
  • Ongoing SEO once the site has traffic to read
  • A maintenance plan once the site is live
  • Logo and brand design, quoted separately from the build
Each one is priced when the estate or the stay wants it.

Not doing

  • Guaranteed rankings
  • Grading or tasting your tea — you state the grade
Where a site ranks is up to Google. The tea itself is judged by you, and the site carries your words for it.

What moves the number

Where the money goes on a Darjeeling build

All five can start small and grow later.

  • 01Specifications per lothow many lots, and who keeps them current
  • 02Selling directthe shop with its payment and stock, or a buyer's enquiry that reaches a named person
  • 03Photographs of the garden and the roomshow many rooms and views need pictures of their own
  • 04A stay's calendaropen dates a guest can see, or an enquiry form to begin with
  • 05Software you already runan accounts system or a payment gateway the site has to work with

Where this comes from

The reach behind the work

I've had clients in 19% of the world's countries. Writing for a reader abroad is ordinary work for me.

FAQ

Tea, guests and the hill connection

The domain, hosting and logins stay in your name throughout.

Can we sell tea direct from the site?

Yes, as a phase-two line. The first build sends a buyer's enquiry to a named person. Payment, dispatch and stock come next, once those enquiries are arriving.

Should guests be able to book on the site?

Not in the first build. A guest's enquiry reaches you directly to begin with. A calendar with open dates is a phase-two line, added when the stay wants it.

Who keeps the stock list current?

Whoever in the estate knows what is left to sell. The runbook shows them how to take a lot off or put one up, and we name that person in the scope. If they move on, the runbook stays with the estate.

What do guests from abroad need to see?

The walk from the road, and the rooms as they are. They can't judge either in person, so the photographs are honest and the distances are the ones you give me. If the path is steep, the site says so.

What if our content isn't ready?

Start with what you have. One lot and one room are enough for a first page, and the rest goes up as you send it. The scope lists what's still to come, so nothing is forgotten along the way.

Next step

Start with one lot or one room

Bring the stock list you have, even a rough one on paper. On a call we pick the pages that come first, and the scope is written from there.
