Web developer in Birbhum for kantha, batik leather and dokra makers

I'm a web developer in Birbhum, and I build small sites for the kantha, batik leather and dokra makers around Santiniketan. Every piece gets its own page and a photograph of that exact item. A buyer can order or ask a question from a phone. If your work already travels outside Bengal through a marketplace shop, the site is built to sit beside it.

Overview

Why the first site stays small

I like to launch with ten pieces, each page finished before the site goes public. Ten complete pages are also ten you can keep up to date yourself.

A maker's own site does not replace the marketplace. It is the address a buyer types when they want a second piece from the same hands.

Tarapith brings pilgrims to the district, and homestays around Santiniketan are chosen from photographs. Each of those is its own small job, kept apart from the craft site.

What gets built here

The parts of a craft maker's site

You know each piece best. I turn what you tell me into a page a buyer can act on.

  • A page for every piece — a photograph of that exact item, never a picture shared across a range.
  • Measurements and materials in words — length, width or height, and what it's made from, because a photograph doesn't give a size.
  • Ordering or asking from a phone — a form that is easy to fill in on a small screen.
  • Your name as the maker — on each page, so a buyer who comes back knows whom to ask for.

Where this runs over

What I can't do from a desk

I never handle the pieces myself, so anything a buyer would learn by touching one has to come from you. Send a line or two with each photograph, and I'll ask about whatever is missing before the page goes up.

  • Photographing each piece so the colour on screen matches the cloth or leather — the step I'd allow the most room for
  • Writing down the measurements and materials of every piece, one at a time

What a scope from me looks like

Scope for a kantha, leather or dokra maker

An example first scope — a kantha, leather or dokra maker selling outside Bengal
v1
FIXED PRICE · PER PHASE

Included

  • A written scope: every page and feature as its own line, agreed before work starts
  • Design to build, reviewed on a staging URL that stays open the whole project
  • Mobile first — checked on a real phone
  • Domain, hosting and every account created in your name from day one
  • One page per piece — material, dimensions, real photograph
  • Basic on-page SEO: titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap, Search Console connected
  • A runbook at handover: how to edit it, what renews and when

Phase two

  • Online payment and dispatch, after the first ten pieces have sold
  • Booking for a homestay
  • Ongoing SEO once the site has traffic to read
  • A maintenance plan once the site is live
  • Logo and brand design, quoted separately from the build
Written down now, and priced only when you ask for one.

Not doing

  • Guaranteed rankings
Google chooses who appears where, and the agreement covers the site we build to give you the best footing there.

Measurements and materials come from your notes, and I set them out in the same order on every page. A buyer comparing two pieces can then read them side by side.

What moves the number

Lines that add to the price

Taking payment on the site brings dispatch with it, and the two are planned together. An enquiry form keeps the first version simpler, and you answer each message yourself.

  • 01How many pieces get a page in the first version
  • 02Direct selling on the site, or enquiries for now
  • 03How many crafts the site coverskantha, batik leather and dokra, or just one
  • 04Who writes each piece's description, you or my team

Where this comes from

How far the work already reaches

19% of the world's countries — that is how far my clients on Fiverr are spread. Finished sites from that work are on the projects page.

FAQ

Questions from craft makers

What makers ask before the first piece goes up.

Most of our sales come through a marketplace. What would our own site add?

Keeping your marketplace shop is fine, because a maker's own site sits next to it as the place returning buyers come to. Someone who bought a kantha piece once can find you by name and order the next one directly, without searching again.

We also run a homestay. Does that go on the craft site?

A homestay works better as its own section, with photographs of the rooms and a booking calendar. None of that overlaps with a product page, so it is scoped separately, in phase two or as its own build.

What should a kantha piece's page show?

A kantha piece's page needs close-ups of the stitching as well as a picture of the whole cloth. A buyer who can't hold it will zoom in on the thread. So I ask for one photograph taken close enough to see each stitch.

Do you work with makers outside Bolpur?

Makers anywhere in Birbhum can work with me, around Santiniketan or well away from it. Every page is reviewed on a staging link before it goes public, so the location of your workshop changes nothing in the build.

Next step

A few photographs to start

Before we talk, photograph a few pieces, one from each craft if you make more than one. That is all I need first. On the call we go through what each piece still needs, from its measurements to what it is made from.
